Gordon L. Vaughan is a shareholder in the law firm of Vaughan & DeMuro.

Vaughan & DeMuro specializes in the defense of government and private entities and their employees. Mr. Vaughan has litigated and tried a number of cases involving claims against law enforcement officers, corrections officers, and public and private jails and prisons. The firm maintains offices in Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado.

Mr. Vaughan has been General Counsel to the American Polygraph Association (“APA”) since 1997 and is an associate editor of Polygraph and has contributed articles to both Polygraph and to the APA’s newsletter. Mr. Vaughan is co-author with Norman Ansley of the APA Quick Reference Guide to the Law.

Mr. Vaughan was an author of the APA’s Amicus Curiae brief in United States v. Scheffer, 523 U.S. 303, 118 S. Ct. 1261, 140 L. Ed. 2d 413 (1998), and the author of the APA’s Amicus Curiae brief in Ex Parte Rodney Reed, No. 75,693, Texas Crim. Ct. App. (2008). In addition, Mr. Vaughan was an author of the APA and American Association of Police Polygraphists’ (“AAPP”) Amicus Curiae brief in Lee v. Martinez, 96 P.3d 291, 136 N.M. 166 (2004).

Mr. Vaughan was a member of the specially-appointed APA “Daubert” Committee which prepared sample briefs and materials for courtroom use by attorneys and polygraph experts. Mr. Vaughan has been a frequent lecturer regarding polygraph legal issues, including presentations to the APA, AAPP, U.S. Secret Service, attorney and district attorney associations, and APA accredited polygraph schools.

Mr. Vaughan has litigated several cases involving issues of polygraph, including Law v. City of Colorado Springs, a case upholding the use of multi-issue polygraph tests for police pre-employment screening.

Mr. Vaughan was the 1997-1998 recipient of the APA President’s Award.
